The legendary Hungarian filmmaker Bela Tarr, recent winner of the Silver Bear in Berlin, will soon arrive in Dubrovnik for the Libertas Film Festival! At the festival Tarr will be presented with the Master Award, which is given every year to film artists for extraordinary contribution to independent filmmaking.

Over the past few days true film euphoria has reigned in the German capital. The reason for this was the 61st edition of the Berlin International Film Festival! Seeing as during the ten-day festival the entire city turns into a true film lovers’ city, Stjepan, Mia and Vanja joined the crowds in Berlin to learn about the latest in the seventh art and inform the filmmakers about the new and richer program of the Libertas Film Festival (LFF).

JASMILA ŽBANIĆ TO HEAD SCREENWRITING WORKSHOP AT 7th LIBERTAS FILM FESTIVAL!

In cooperation with the Croatian Film Clubs’ Association and Palunko, the seventh Libertas Film Festival (LFF) will provide young screenwriters from the region a chance to work intensively with one of the most successful directors and screenwriters in these parts of Europe, Jasmila Žbanić. The workshop is intended for screenwriters and directors of the younger generation from all over the region, with some experience in the industry. Over the five festival days they will be working intensively in teams to develop and better their short film scripts. To top it off, the author of the best script at the workshop will be given an opportunity to continue cooperating with Jasmila until his or her script is perfect.

SECOND ANIMATION WORKSHOP TO BE LED BY KELLY LOOSLI!

Seeing as last year’s animation film workshop was a sell-out, the second such workshop, intended for future young filmmakers, will be organized in cooperation with the trusted partners, Croatian Film Clubs’ Association and Čakovec Animation School! Just as last year, this year’s participants will be taught by Croatia’s prominent animator Jasminka Bijelić Ljubić of the Čakovec-based Animation School and world renowned veteran of the animation industry Kelly Loosli!

NISI MASA ORGANIZES FILM CRISTICISM WORKSHOP!

Organized in cooperation with NISI MASA, this particular workshop aims at encouraging further development of the film criticism and journalism as over the past few years they have been completely marginalized in both Croatian and regional media space. The workshop would focus on sparking the interest of film criticism and film journalism and it would deal with the basics of film criticism, essays and journalism. Under the expert guidance of the NISI MASA representatives and Croatia’s young film critic Mario Kozina, workshop participants will be working on a film publication, writing film reviews and presenting the expert jury for the film program of the Libertas Film Festival & Forum 2011. Workshop participants would embark on creating a festival publication with help of professional film critics and NISIMASA representatives. And last, but not the least: jury composed of young participants of workshop for film journalism will give NISI MASA AWARD for the best film in main programme.

CINEMATOGRAPHY WORKSHOP IN COOPEARTION WITH NEST PRODUCTION!

The cinematography workshop will be held in cooperation with the Italian film organization NEST CULTURAL ASSOCIATION ! The workshop will be led by, among others, Paolo Parisotto, NEST founder and cinematography director with an impressive track record. At last year’s LFF Parisotto joined forces with the best known cinematographer of today, Dante Spinotti, to head the Master Class Workshop . The goal of the workshop is sharing the experience and knowledge with the young talents, both ex cathedra and in practice, as well as connecting with other professionals and sharing ideas between European and regional cinematographers

After six years the Libertas Film Festival & Forum will open in 2011 with a new changed concept. The festival’s seventh edition will take place in Dubrovnik, in the period between April 11 and April 17 in Valamar Hotels and Resorts, LFF’s suorganizer which has been supporting the festival from the very beginning. Moreover, besides the obligatory films, the program is richer by as many as five workshops and a film forum!

Denmark's famed actor Mads Mikkelsen is best remembered for his role of the bad guy in the 21 st. James Bond film, Casino Royale. As the special guest of this year's edition of the Libertas Film Festival, he was presented with the Tribute Award. On the occasion, the film aficionados were given the opportunity to see his Oscar-nominated film After the Wedding, in which Mikkelsen has one of the leading roles.

Best documentary feature is Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired by Marina Zenovich, who will receive the Dubravka award in person. The special Libertas audience award goes to a German feature the Wave by Dennis Gansel.

Lifetime achievement award goes to Mustafa Nadarević

This year's Libertas FF special lifetime achievement award will be handed to Mustafa Nadarević, a well know ex-Yugoslavian actor. He had many recognized achievements in theatre as well as in film and TV. Nadarević is best known for his work in the 1985 film When Father Was Away on Business and he also stared in an Oscar winning film No man's lad (2001).

Regional premiere of "Roman Polanski: Wanted & Desired"

Following its European premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, the highly praised documentary 'Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired' by the U.S. director Marina Zenovich is going to have its regional premiere at the fourth LIBERTAS Film Festival.

"I have been dreaming of returning to Dubrovnik for a few years now and I am looking forward to coming to the LIBERTAS Film Festival!" said recently Marina Zenovich. The documentary in question is going to have its regional premiere at the upcoming LIBERTAS Film Festival. The Croatian audience will be able to see this memorable and exceedingly interesting documentary about the infamous affair of the legendary film director Roman Polanski, hailed by the Entertainment Weekly as the "documentary of rare fascination and power". The film premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival, winning the Best Documentary Editing Award.

Roman Gutek, chairman of the largest Polish film distribution company Gutek Film and head of the renowned and award-winning Muranow art cinema, will be heading the Art Cinema workshop at the upcoming Libertas Film Festival! Intended for the people at the helm of regional and European art cinemas, the workshop will focus on the following issues and problems: management of and strategy for the development of the art cinema, collaboration with the distributors, presence in the media, promotion, influence of the film festivals on the art cinemas’ program and financing by domestic and international funds.
